hari lagiThe Orang Asli settlement of KOA Makmur located in Ulu Kinta, Perak, consists of approximately 800 people residing around 100 houses. The majority of the Orang Asli residents here belong to the Temiar ethnic group, speaking Bahasa Asli as their primary language while also communicating in Bahasa Melayu with outsiders. Unlike many other Orang Asli villages, KOA Makmur, Ulu Kinta is relatively well-developed, with better access to infrastructure, education, and healthcare services. Given this, COMRADE IIUM aims to introduce an advanced module in our four days programme to provide higher-level religious education, skill-building opportunities, and personal development initiatives. Since this is our first program in KOA Makmur, we aim to seek close engagement with the community, build stronger relationships, and understand their needs better for future collaborations.
Recognizing the progress made by the community, this programme will focus on fostering strong bonds between the committees and the Orang Asli community by introducing a lot of principles through our approach. We will incorporate the 4K approach, which are Keceriaan (cheerfulness), Kebersihan (cleanliness), Kesihatan (health), and Keselamatan (safety), to enhance the overall well-being of the community. Furthermore, cultural exchange activities will be conducted through food such as rewang, sports day, and lifestyle sharing through ziarah slots that can allow for meaningful interactions and mutual learning between committees and Orang Asli community. The committees will have opportunities to live among the villagers, understand their way of life, and engage in meaningful interactions about their lifestyle and challenges.
In addition, this program will go beyond Islamic teachings by incorporating advanced religious modules, leadership training, and sustainable living practices. The main goal is to empower their understanding of Islamic values in a modern context while instilling critical thinking skills through Hal Ehwal Apak (Helapak) and Hal Ehwal Wanita (Helwani). By incorporating Islamic principles, this program can help to guide them towards spiritual growth, and foster a deeper contemplation of the Quran.
This initiative aligns with our broader mission to empower underprivileged communities and promote sustainable development through education, faith, and social welfare. By introducing advanced modules and skill-based learning, we hope to support the Orang Asli in KOA Makmur, in leading a more enriched, independent, and spiritually fulfilling life.
