The Orang Asli are Malaysia's original inhabitants, forming an integral part of the nation’s cultural and historical identity. Although a minority, it is our collective responsibility to support their welfare and provide necessary assistance. The primary goal of our programs is to improve their living conditions while introducing aspects of Islam to encourage its adoption as a comprehensive way of life. To achieve this goal, COMRADE IIUM has implemented a variety of programmes, such as teaching them basic Islamic information and giving them access to mosques where they can learn more about Islam and its values.

Community Outreach for Orang Asli Development (COMRADE) is a club that is responsible for engaging IIUM students with Orang Asli in social projects in order to promote development in terms of infrastructure, mentality, and spiritual enhancement for Orang Asli. It is meant to continue helping and maintaining the effort of delivering da’wah to the aborigine community as the main target. In order to serve the ummah better, especially our main target group which is the aboriginal community, COMRADE has been organizing many programs that mainly focus on the development of the aborigine community as their main objective to provide education theoretically and practically to the villagers as well as to help in the development of the aboriginal community. This program's overarching purpose is to instill the Orang Asli with a sense of exposure to the religion while engaging with them in a fun way. 

Hence, We are pleased to present a program titled 'Spreading Hope and Nurturing with Empathy' (SHINE 1.0), designed to offer both religious and educational exposure, inspiring hope and fostering a deeper connection to education and spirituality. SHINE aims to be an ongoing annual initiative, addressing the challenges faced by the Orang Asli community. In its initial phase, the focus is on providing new members with an introduction to the program, while also emphasizing the importance of building bonds with the Orang Asli of all ages. Additionally, the program serves as a platform for spreading da’wah to the community in a meaningful and impactful way.

KOA Air Bah 1 & 2 are both located at Gerik, Perak which have approximately 69 houses, brick houses as well as traditional ones that are quite far from one another. Most of the community in KOA Air Bah comes from minority subgroups of Orang Asli, mainly Lanoh. There are several developments in terms of facilities including a kindergarten with 2 open halls that will be the programme center and will be used by the committees. The main road towards there is also developed well that leads to easy access for any transport except for larger vehicles. Moreover, the water and electricity supplies are available to most of the houses in KOA Air Bah, however, the use may be limited sometimes for all the residents in KOA Air Bah due to internal issues. 

Spreading Hope and Nurturing with Empathy 1.0 marks the inaugural initiative by the Comrade Club in the Kampung Orang Asli (KOA) Air Bah. The program is designed to provide religious exposure by offering foundational Islamic knowledge, promoting community cohesion, and nurturing a deeper connection to faith. This exposure aims to foster a better understanding of Islamic practices, creating an accessible and meaningful experience for the community, many of whom are new to Islam.

In addition to religious exposure, the program focuses on improving education by encouraging a positive mindset toward learning among the children, motivating them to pursue higher education and develop a lifelong passion for academic growth. By promoting educational engagement, the program seeks to enhance the community's academic capabilities and prepare them for future opportunities.

On top of that, the program also strives to foster close relationships within the community, emphasizing the importance of unity and mutual support. Through cultural workshops and bonding activities, the initiative strengthens connections among all members of the Orang Asli community, creating a collaborative environment for mutual growth.

Ultimately, this initiative aims to serve as a model for holistic development by integrating education, spirituality, cultural empowerment, and practical skills. Through this comprehensive approach, ‘Spreading Hope and Nurturing with Empathy’ 1.0 aspires to establish a benchmark for the success of the Orang Asli people and inspire other indigenous communities to enhance their quality of life.
